It was pretty funny and at the same time it got the crowd all worked up. I know I liked it at the time.

A pretty silly song to cover, but I think it was intended as somewhat of a joke - on us. At that point in time, anything Phil did got a huge rise out of the crowds - anything. I think he liked that. Hit the pinnacle in '86 with the Box of Rain break out.

The train wreck version is the one from BCT in Nov of '84, Jerry tries to make it happen...

No one "heard" Box of Rain, as you well know. They started the song, Phil stepped to the mic, and the explosion from the crowd was as loud as anything I've ever heard.

Doesn't really come across, but not exactly like we listened in reverence:
